Lady's Mantle

Alchemilla mollis

About This Plant

Lady's mantle forms soft mounds of scalloped leaves that catch rain and dew in bright beads. Airy chartreuse flowers rise above the foliage in early summer and blend easily with many colour schemes.

Plant in sun or part shade in evenly moist, well-drained soil. Shear faded flowers and tired foliage after bloom to refresh the clump and limit self-seeding.

Lady's Mantle is a clumping herbaceous perennial that forms a long-stemmed basal mound. The light to blue green circular foliage is scalloped and has 9-11 lobes with soft downy hairs. Small spreading clusters of star-shaped chartreuse flowers bloom in summer and can experience another lighter bloom if deadheaded. Grows best with afternoon shade in the South and well-drained soils. Lady's Mantle tends to keep beads of moisture after a rain, creating additional ornamental value.
